Read this if you're going back to school!
Are you thinking about making some changes in your life? Perhaps you're thinking about going back to school! This is the best time to go back to school with the economy the way it is. Now is the time to learn new skills and get a better paying career.
Now that you've made this decision, what's the first step? There are few things you'll have to do when going back to school. The first thing you need to do is to decide what you want to major in! Maybe you've always been drawn to the nursing profession. Or perhaps teaching is more your style. Whatever career you've always dreamed of having, you need to choose the best school for you and your chosen field.
When going back to school, your next step is to apply to the school of your choice. This may be a local community college, or a four-year university. And don't forget about the option of starting off at a community college, and then transferring to a university like I did. Be sure to keep in mind other options like DeVry University and Kaplan University. For-profit universities like these are usually a great choice for working adults.
You've been accepted! Congrats! Well, now is the time to start looking into how you're going to be paying for this. This can be quite expensive, so it's a good thing there are plenty of grants, scholarships, and student loans to help you out. And don't think that scholarships are just for the kids - there are actually more than 230 scholarships that are only available to those aged 25 or older! And of course, there are also many grants available to adults as well. Student loans may also be a good choice for those of us who aren't eligible for the 'free' money, and interest rates can be as low as 2.75% for those who qualify.
Alright, you're in, and it's paid for - what now? Now the real fun begins - your first classes! I applaud your drive, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here - this is going to present a few changes into how you live your life, so it's best to start off slowly while you get acclimated to the experience. I would recommend starting off with just two or possibly three classes during your first semester. This is how I did it, and I found it to be very helpful when adjusting to the new routine.
Now you've begun this new experience of going back to school. Congratulations on taking this journey! There's yet more information that will help you with school. From note-taking tips, to information about tests you can take to help you figure out your major, I would recommend you head over to www.goingbacktoschool.org to learn more about how you can best succeed during college.
