Vintage Movie Posters: Growing Interest As A Collectible

While finding the hottest new trend is always easy on a college campus, sometimes the hot new trend is an old one that came back again. In the 1960s lava lamps and beads decorated every bedroom and Volkswagen Van in sight and in the 1990s they were spotted in nearly every girl's college dorm room. In the 1960s and the 1970s, psychedelic colored posters and black lights were all the rage. In the mid 1990s, they were back again in full force. So, what is this years' crop of college freshman decorating their walls with?

Vintage film posters populate walls from Hudson University to UCLA and all points between. Girls who had not even been a glimmer in their parents' eyes when "Breakfast at Tiffany's" was released in theatres are hanging Audrey on the wall and buying dark glasses and pearl necklaces. Classic film posters from A-list hits such as "Scarface" or D-list wonders such as "Evil Dead" are hung up every day. The black and white posters are only the tip of the movie memorabilia iceberg.

Young adults both, men and women, in their early 20's, are beginning to step back and admire a period in time when life was simple. The time period of drive in movies and black and white pictures. This time period my be appealing because things where easier to understand or maybe it is just a love for classics.

Classic movie posters are only the beginning. Intelligent marketers from around the country are making millions in merchandising. Everything from catch phrase t-shirts to freestanding figurines and accessories from the films can be found in local shopping malls. Vintage movie posters are more popular than ever. At poster sales on college campuses across the country are selling out of "Dracula" and "The Blob" posters faster than newer films. Vintage movie posters are more popular than ever.

Posters can bring back the magic of another time and a fantasy of what might have been. They can help capture the spirit of a time you wish you lived in or help to keep memories alive. Some students put up posters to remind them of childhood or high school, some put them up to let other know who they are. Independent art/film posters and vintage movies posters use to only be displayed on the walls of film students, but the audience for them now, is so much larger.

More than twenty years ago most American teens had posters displaying the sexy Faye Dunaway or the incredible Elvis Presley hanging from their wall. Today, the hottest trends with teens in posters are those same figures that were popular way back then. These iconic representations are the perfect gift for that young man or lady in your life, and can give them the same expression of happiness that they gave an older generation upon receipt.
